What is Computer desktop?

                     When the booting process is completed in the computer system. Then the screen that comes in front of us is called the desktop, it is the background of all the programs and the commands required to access them. The symbol that blinks on the computer screen is called cursor. Another important feature found on the desktop is an icon which is a small picture associated with a program. It can also be called a shortcut to a file, folder, program. By double clicking on this icon the program runs or the file opens. Pressing F5 on the keyboard refreshes the screen.             


What are the desktop icons?

                   There are some important icons on the desktop which are as follows. Let us know them in detail:-              

1) My computer:-

                            It is an important icon on the desktop which helps us to use Drive, Printer, Control Panel. Through this we can access all the partitions of HDD. With this, we can also access the C:/ Drive where the operating system of our system is stored. Apart from this, D:/, E:/, F:/ Drive etc. are also available in this. From where we can use them.

2) Recycle Bin:- 

                           When we delete any file and folder in the computer, it goes to the Recycle Bin. This is a special space in the computer where all the files, folders deleted from the computer are stored in it. Its advantage is that if a file is accidentally deleted, then we can bring it back from where it was deleted. You will open it to bring back the deleted file. After opening, right click with the mouse on the file you want to bring back. By doing this, click on the command named Restore in it. On clicking, that file will automatically go from where it was deleted.               


3) My Network Places:-

                          Under this the network connection is shown. Which connects the system to the Internet. In this, the details of whatever connection is connected to the computer can be seen here. Like if internet connection is connected then you can see it and if computer is connected to network then you can see it. From here we can also check that network and also make settings.


4) Task Bar:-

                         There is a thin bar at the bottom edge of the desktop. It is called Task Bar. Which has the Start button at one end and the Clock at the other end. There are even smaller -2 icons on the taskbar. In this, whenever you run a program on the computer, you can see its active icon in this bar. Apart from this, you can also set the time and zone of the computer through this. In this Start Button is given from where you can run all the programs.


5) Start Menu:-

                              Clicking on the Start button of the taskbar opens a menu called the start menu. There are many options in this menu, with some options there is a small arrow mark (-->) which shows another menu. There are many options in the Start Menu, let's know them in detail:-                  

I) Program:- In this there is a list of the programs which are installed in the computer. Whenever we have to run a program, we can go to this program list and run it by clicking on it.


II) Favorites:- This is a list of bookmarked web pages. In this, if we bookmark a webpage or any program, then their list goes on being made here. Which we call Favorite list.

III) My Document:- List of most currently used documents. Through this, we can see the list of files that are created using any program in the computer. Means whatever file you create. You can see all those files here.

IV) Setting:- It contains a list of Control Panel, Printers, Taskbar, Start Menu and Network Connections. From here we can see and do all kinds of settings of the computer.

V) Search:- To search for a particular file and folder. From here we can search any file or folder created in the computer.

VI) Help:-  Used to get any program related support. If you want to take any kind of help in the computer, then you can use this option. For this you can also use keyboard shortcut key 'F2'.

VII) Run:-  It can be used to run a program. For this you can use the keyboard shortcut 'Window Logo key + R'.

VIII) Shut Down:- It is used to turn off the computer. You can also use the keyboard shortcut key "Alt + F4" on the computer system.
