Things to consider when buying a computer:-             

                      While buying a computer, various facts should be kept in mind to buy the right type of computer. It should be kept in mind that the computer meets your needs and it also saves time and money. There are two types of computers available in the market.

1) Brand name computers.

2) Clone means assembled computer.

1) Brand Name Computers:- 

                             These computers are manufactured by big computer manufacturers like IBM, DELL, COMPAC, HP, ACER, LENOVO, TOSHIBA, SONY, NEC, APPLE, GATEWAY, FIJUTSU etc. The computer made by these companies is called Brand Name Computer. Components (Parts) of brand name computers are designed and approved by large companies. These computers are expensive due to being branded.

2) Clone/Assembled Computer:- 

                             These computers are not made by big companies like IBM, but they are not less than those computers in any case. That is to say, assembled computers are not made by big computer manufacturers. These computers are more popular nowadays because of the variations being provided by different companies. In this way you can decide which component should be in your computer. These computers are cheaper than branded computers and their performance is similar to branded computers.

■ Compatibility:- 

                           You can easily upgrade to Clone / Assembled computers as compared to Brand Name computers, as Clone / Assembled computers support a wider range of computers manufactured by different manufacturers. Components of a brand name computer are specially made and they are very expensive to replace. In such a situation, Brand Name Computers prove to be very expensive.                 

■ Reliability:- 

                         Brand name computers are more reliable than clone / assembled computers, as most large companies use high quality control in manufacturing computers.

■ Cost of Computer:- 

                           Brand name computers are more expensive than Clone / Assembled computers. While clone computers are somewhat cheaper. But it is not necessary that their quality is not good.

■ After sales service:-

                        Brand Name Computers provide better after sales service than Clone / Assembed computers. Brand name computers often also offer the facility of extending the warranty. Apart from this, they also provide technical support for the program or software provided with the computer. This type of after sale service is often not available with Clone/Assembled computers.                        

Some important things before buying:-

                   Before buying a computer, you should talk to your friends, shopkeepers in the market, etc. about what type of computer you should buy. Can they help you in choosing the company or computer etc. You should take help of the website and also read its preview. While buying a better computer, you should keep the following things in mind. which is like this:-                

■ Processor Speed:- 

                                The size and type of memory (RAM) and storage (Hard Disk, CD ROM, CD WRITER, DVD ROM) should be checked. Especially the speed of the processor should also be taken care of. These things should be taken care of while buying a computer.

■Calibrating Input / Output devices):-

                            Input / output devices connected to the computer such as mouse, keyboard, monitor, printer, sound card, video card etc. should be thoroughly checked that there is no fault of any kind.

■ Communication Devices:- 

                         Communication devices connected to the computer such as modem, network interface card, etc. should also be seen. If this facility is not available then you may have trouble connecting the net to your computer.

■ Computer Software:- 

                           Any software included in the computer, such as word processor or antivirus etc., which are of your use, should be installed.

Maintaining your Computer:-

                                    After buying the computer, for it to keep working smoothly, you should also keep some maintenance. By adopting the things mentioned in this section, you can keep the maintenance of your computer to a minimum.

■ Use a notebook so that all the information related to your computer is present. Whenever you make any changes in your computer such as adding or removing hardware or software. He should immediately note down in his notebook. You should include the following points in your computer:-

∆ Vendor support number from your user manual.

∆ Serial numbers of all devices and software.

∆ User ID, Password and Nickname for your ISP.

∆ Vendor name and date for all devices or software.

■ Keep the area around your computer clean and dust free. This will reduce the need to clean the internal parts of your computer system and keep cleaning it from time to time.

■ Make a backup of important files and data. Use a utility program or third party included in the operating system (O/S) and get help if the disk is low during recovery or restart. Keep copying important data files to Disk, CD, DVD, PEN Drive, External Hard Disk or other computer regularly.  You can prevent viruses from entering your computer by installing an antivirus program on your computer and updating it from time to time from the vendor's website. Never open files received from unknown person on your computer. Especially those whose e-mails contain any attachment files.

■ Keep your computer clean by using the features available in the Windows operating system. The first feature among these is Disk Defragmenter which helps you to identify and sort files and it speeds up the working of the disk.

■ Learn how to use the diagnosis tools that will help you understand and fix your computer problems. Diagnosis tools help you a lot in checking components, monitoring resource (memory and processing power) files, undoing changes, etc.
